Incineration feedback: the 5 commandments to remember when upgrading to standards

Since 4 December 2023, France’s 126 waste incinerators (or Energy Recovery Units) have had to meet the new environmental standards and performance tests imposed by the BREF 2019. SCCM ALP has accompanied some of them, and we’d like to offer you a little ‘on the spot’ feedback.

Between 2004 (decree of 20/09/2002) and 2023 (decree of 12/01/2021), emission limit values (ELVs) have been reduced:

from 10 to 5 mg/m3 for dust
from 200 to 80 mg/m3 for nitrogen oxides (NOx)
from 0.1 to 0.06 ng/m3 for dioxins and furans (PCDD/F)
50 to 30 mg/m3 for sulphur oxides (SO2)

Revamping facilities for some, changing flue gas treatment solutions for others…

2023 will have been a busy year for all of us as we strive to satisfy our customers…

The SCCM ALP team has been called upon in particular to support you during this period in order to implement the solutions chosen for the dry treatment of incineration flue gases:

Modernisation or replacement of silos
Installation of grinders
Automation of injections
Powder transport

In a nod to an eventful year under the BREF banner, we’d like to share our experience with you through 5 commandments.

The 5 commandments for upgrading

  • N°1: You’ll praise the adaptability needed for revamping!

Design office, logistics and

site management do not have the same vision of things and concessions are necessary.

Well done to everyone for being able to listen to each other and remain in ‘solution for customer satisfaction’ mode, while co-constructing the solution with the customer!

  • No. 2: Respect the pitch!

In the words of Pierre Desproges, ‘one day, I’ll go and live in theory, because in theory, everything’s fine!

  • No. 3: Thou shalt accept the vagaries of climate and society!

Road closures, collapsed tunnels and unexpected strikes are all unpleasant surprises when it comes to transporting XXL silos by special convoy. We’ve done it!

  • No. 4: Anticipate future upgrades!

Although the date of the new regulatory obligation had been known for a long time, the deadline had a natural accelerating effect and put pressure on the players involved.

A single watchword: ‘continuous improvement’.

  • N°5 : Turnkey integration, the best solution !

Following your project from A to Z, from engineering to installation, was really the most comfortable solution for everyone.

Many thanks to all those who have placed their trust in us, and we look forward to continuing to improve the treatment of incineration flue gases.

I need you !
